Hello Ruby Book Launching Event
On December 7th, 2023, Vietnam - Finland International School (VFIS) collaborated with Wise Consulting Finland Oy (WCF) and Kim Dong Publishing House to host the book launching event of Hello Ruby. This remarkable technology book, hailing from Finland, has garnered worldwide acclaim and is now made available to students in Vietnam and beyond.
VFIS was honored to have esteemed participants join us for the event, including H.E. Touko Piiparinen, the Deputy Ambassador of Finland in Vietnam; Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tram, the Chairman of People’s Community of Tan Quy Ward, District 7, HCMC; Mr. Pasi Toiva, the CEO of WCF; Dr. Vo Hoang Duy, Vice President of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU); Ms. Miekk-Oja Suvi, the Acting Head of VFIS; Writer Van Thanh Le, the Director of Kim Dong Publishing House in HCMC, as well as teachers and parents who have a keen interest in Finnish education, particularly Hello Ruby.
Hello Ruby, created by Linda Liukas, an artist, programmer, and technology education expert from Finland, aims to equip children with knowledge and skills in the field of information technology. Considered as one of the most enchanting and extraordinary books about the world of technology, computers and coding, Hello Ruby offers children a golden ticket to embark on a whimsical adventure. Within its pages, they can explore a new realm of information technology, filled not only with humor but also with science and logic. In December 2023, Hello Ruby was officially launched in Vietnam, translated into over 25 languages and published in more than 40 countries.
Mr. Touko Piiparinen, the Deputy Ambassador of Finland in Vietnam, expressed during his speech, "The Vietnamese publication of the Hello Ruby series holds great significance in the year 2023, which commemorates 50 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Finland. This milestone aims to leave a lasting impact on Vietnam's digital transformation era." Ms. Miekk-Oja Suvi, the Acting Head of VFIS, sincerely expressed her gratitude to the Ambassador of Finland and WCF for their unwavering support and partnership in fostering innovation and pedagogical advancements at VFIS. Their concrete actions, such as selecting VFIS as the venue for the Hello Ruby Book Launching Event and being the first school in Vietnam to implement Hello Ruby into the pedagogical framework for the academic year 2023-2024.
On this remarkable occasion, participants were presented with a golden opportunity to engage in discussions with Education Experts from Finland during the seminar titled "Developing Digital Literacy for Young Children in Finland." This seminar shed light on the innovative and practical application of Finnish education methods, specifically designed to cultivate the digital skills of young children in the ever-evolving digital era.
