The University of Lille I

The University of Lille was founded in 1562 by the Spanish and became French in 1667. It became established in the heart of Lille in 1854, and then in 1964 it moved to its current site in Villeneuve d'Ascq. The USTL is one of the great French universities in the fields of research and training. The University of LilIe I is situated in the north of France, within easy access of the ports of France and the main motorway system which runs through Europe. The University of Lille I has a teaching and research staff of 1,300 and a student population of roughly 18,000. Located in the heart of Northern Europe, Villeneuve d'Ascq has all the assets to become a technological centre for Europe. The geographical location of the town favours the exchange of students and ideas.
