Scholarship

Vietnam-Finland International School welcomes the new school year 2024-2025. We are ready to welcome new members, a generation of dynamic, enthusiastic students with outstanding ability and thinking through the Scholarship Program implemented as follows: 

 

1. Scholarship for VFIS current students

1.1 Objects: Students from 9th to 12th grade in the international and bilingual programs currently studying at VFIS, ensuring compliance with the scholarship criteria outlined in Section 1.3.

1.2 Quantity and scholarship levels: Awarding 10 scholarships for the bilingual and international programs, Each scholarship ranges from 25% to 50% of the tuition fees, and the specific scholarship amount will be determined by the Scholarship committee for each case. In the event that the number of candidates meeting the scholarship requirements exceeds the available scholarships for the academic year, the Scholarship committee will prioritize and assess scholarships sequentially until all designated scholarship slots are filled.

1.3 Conditions for granting scholarships:

a) Academic performance: Based on the results of the three most recent semesters, meeting specific requirements as follows:

  • For applicants applying to 9th grade in the Bilingual Program: 

+ Average grades in each subject: Mathematics, Literature, English, Natural Sciences, History, Geography, and Value Education must be 8.5 or above;
+ No subject should have an average grade below 7.0;
+ Subjects assessed by comments should achieve a satisfactory level.

  • For applicants applying to 10th grade and above in the Bilingual Program:

+ Average grades in each subject: Mathematics, Literature, and English must be 8.5 or above;
+ Average grades in the group of subjects: Related to Natural Sciences (average of Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or related to Social Sciences (average of History, Geography, Value Education/ Economic and Legal Education) must be 8.5 or above;
+ No subject should have an average grade below 7.0;
+ Subjects assessed by comments should achieve a satisfactory level.

  • For applicants applying to 9th and 10th grades in the International Program:

+ Average grades in each subject: Mathematics and English must be 8.0 or above;
+ Average grades in the group of subjects: Related to Natural Sciences (average of Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or related to Social Sciences (average of History, Geography, Social Studies, Health Education) must be 8.0 or above; 
+ No subject should have an average grade below 7.0;
+ Subjects assessed by comments should achieve a satisfactory level. 

  • For applicants applying to 11th grade in the International Program (International Baccalaureate):

+  For evaluating the academic results of the 9th-grade semester:
     -  Average grades for each subject: Mathematics, English achieving 8.0 or above.
     -  Average grades in the group of subjects: Subjects related to Natural Sciences (average of Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or Social Sciences (average of History, Geography, Social Studies, Health Education) achieving 8.0 or above;
     -  No subject should have an average grade below 7.0.

+  For evaluating the academic results of the 10th-grade semester:
     -  Average grades in each subject: Mathematics, English must be 6/7 or higher;
     -  Average grades in the group of subjects: The average grades for subjects related to Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or Social Sciences (History, Social Studies, Geography) must be 6/7 or higher;
     -  No subject should have an average grade below 4.0;
     -  Community projects are evaluated from grade C and above;
     -  Subjects assessed by comments should achieve a satisfactory level.

  •  For applicants applying to 12th grade in the International Program (IBDP):

+  For evaluating the academic results of the 10th-grade semester:
     -  Average grades in each subject: Mathematics and English must be 6/7 or above;
     -  Average grades in the group of subjects: Related to Natural Sciences (average of Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or related to Social Sciences (average of History and Social Studies, Geography) must be 6/7 or above;

+  For evaluating the academic results of the 11th-grade semester: at least 4 subjects must achieve a grade of 6/7 or above;
+  No subject should have an average grade below 4.0;
+  CAS program proceeds according to the schedule;
+  Subjects assessed by comments should achieve a satisfactory level.

b) Conduct Assessment: Good or very good level

c) Essay: Written and presented by students following VFIS questions (find HERE for details)

d) Recommendation letter: From two individuals who have a deep understanding of the student, with at least one person being a VFIS teacher.

e) Certificates of participation: participation in community activities, commendations, awards from exams, academic activities, sports, cultural, and social events (if any).

 

2. Scholarship for VFIS newly enrolled students in 2024-2025

2.1 Objects: Students from grade 2 to grade 12 in international and bilingual programs, newly enrolling at VFIS, ensuring compliance with the scholarship criteria and conditions outlined in section 2.3. Scholarships do not apply to students currently studying at VFIS.

2.2. Quantity and scholarship levels:  Awarding 20 scholarships for the bilingual and international programs. Each scholarship ranges from 25% to 50% of tuition fees, and the specific amount will be determined by the Scholarship Committee for each case. In the event that the number of candidates meeting the scholarship requirements exceeds the available scholarships for the academic year, the Scholarship committee will prioritize and assess scholarships sequentially until all designated scholarship slots are filled.

2.3. Conditions for granting scholarships:  

a) Academic Results:  Based on the results of the latest three semesters, for students applying to enter grade 2, only the most recent semester is considered, fulfilling specific requirements as follows:

  • The average grades of all subjects should be 8.5 or above on a scale of 10. In case a different grading scale is used, the Scholarship Committee will review and convert them to an equivalent level. 
  • No subject should have an average grade below 7.0 on a scale of 10. In case a different grading scale is used, the Scholarship Committee will review and convert them to an equivalent level.
  • Subjects evaluated through comments must achieve a satisfactory level.

b) The result of the VFIS entrance assessment for students must be 80% or higher for each subject.

c) Video (2 - 5 minutes): In English, students present in response to VFIS's questions as follows:

  • Why did you choose VFIS?
  • What made you deserve this scholarship?
  • What have you done for your school's community?   

d) Recommendation Letter: Recommendation letter from two individuals who have a deep understanding of the students.

e) Certificates of participation: participation in community activities, commendations, and awards from examinations, academic pursuits, sports, cultural events, and social engagements (if any)

 

3. General principles:

  • Students who register to study and pay tuition at VFIS are also eligible to apply for scholarships, according to regulations.
  • Scholarships are only provided when students meet their tuition responsibilities in accordance with VFIS regulations.
  • Applicants must pay the security deposit fee or tuition fee (the remaining difference after deducting the student's scholarships) within 14 days of receiving the school's scholarship agreement letter.
  • The remaining tuition fee (if applicable) must be paid before the first day of the school year. If the student fails to pay the prescribed fees and tuition by the deadline, the School will revoke the awarded scholarship benefits. Reservation fees will not be reimbursed.
  • The scholarship pertains to tuition fees. Other payments are not included. 
  • Scholarships are applied to tuition fees paid by semester or year;
  • Scholarships specified in this section do not apply at the same time as other scholarship, exemption, or tuition support policies of the School. 
  • The school has the right to supplement and update the VFIS Scholarship Program and Policy annually.

 

4. Application Documents:   

  • The registration form for a scholarship

          + For VFIS current students only

          + For newly enrolled students in 2024-2025 only

  • Essay on a topic given by VFIS (for VFIS current students only)
  • Video on questions given by VFIS (for VFIS new enrolled students only)
  • Two recommendation letters from people who know the student well (at least one is VFIS teacher for VFIS students only)
  • Copy of academic results from the latest three semesters, for students applying to enter grade 2, only the most recent semester is considered. 
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • English certificate (if available)
  • Certificate of participation in community activities, certificates of merit, awards for exams (if any).

 

5. How to submit your application:

  1. Send the application documents directly to Admissions Office - Vietnam-Finland International School. Address:01, D1 Street, Tan Phong Ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City (inside Ton Duc Thang University Campus, 19 Nguyen Huu Tho street, Tan Phong Ward, District 7, HCMC)
  2. Send the application documents online through email: admissions@vfis.tdtu.edu.vn;
    Title: [Full name of the student_VFIS SCHOLARSHIP]

 

6. Timeline:

  • 15/03/2024 - 29/4/2024: Submit Application Documents. Newly enrolled students participate in an entrance assessment test.
  • From 29/04/2024: Applicants who satisfy the Scholarship Eligibility Criteria will be invited to participate in the Scholarship Interview. The school will offer Academic Scholarships to successful applicants within 30 working days after the final round. Applicants need to accept the scholarship, pay the security deposit fee or tuition fee (the remaining difference after deducting the student's scholarships) and complete the registration procedure at VFIS within 14 working days after the result has been sent to the student.
  • Before the first day of the 2024-2025 school year: Deadline for scholarship students to pay the remaining tuition fee (if any). After this period, if a student has not paid the remaining tuition fee, the school will withdraw the approved scholarship benefit. The security deposit fee will not be refunded.
Note:
  • Scholarships include the reduction of tuition fee only, other fees are impossible.  
  • New students are required to finish the entrance assessment test and complete the non-refundable application fee equal to 2.250.000 (VND) for grades 1-5 and 4.500.000 for grades 6-12.
