Orienteeing in P.E
Orienteering is a versatile sport that develops many other qualities besides orienteering. Moving in nature alone develops many different skills. In addition, orienteering offers versatile opportunities to integrate different subjects like math, science and English. Orienteering teaches students about the benefits of knowing how to read a map and navigate in urban surroundings or in nature.
Orienteering develops:
- Motivation, basic exercise and motor skills as well as endurance
- Concentration
- Problem-solving
- Self-confidence
- Teamwork
Here at VFIS, we modify the orienteering lessons to suit the environment. Because all of the students are new to the sport, we begin with the basics. Students learn what a map is, what the map represents and what the map colors and symbols stand for. They will also learn the differences between an orienteering map, a city map and, a map of a continent. The areas of instruction that we will be using in VFIS are the classroom, gym and school yard. Orienteering exercises start from the indoors. The easy-to-do indoor exercises on the School Map are a meaningful way to teach the basics of orienteering. The terrain in the VFIS school yard is rich in clear objects such as buildings, roads, paths. Theterrain is open, the visibility is good and the ground beneath your feet is smooth and easy to walk. The maps are large-scale and up-to-date. Orienteering takes place in a familiar area without fear of being lost. Controls are placed on clear objects such as corners of buildings, corners of shrubs, individual visible trees, climbing frames, fences or posts. VFIS students have enjoyed learning about this new sport.
To experience an inspiring educational environment of Finland in Vietnam, we would like to invite you to attend the ???? SCHOOL TOUR ????. This is also an opportunity to find out the prominence of VFIS curriculum so that you have an additional choice for your children's study.
