Rhino protection week

Rhino protection week is a fun week of activities with the primary goal of the whole school community working together to learn about Rhino protection and conservation in general. During the week students partake in daily activities led by the Eco/ Green STEM club.  Activities include educational presentations, Kahoot quizzes, poacher rhino ‘hangman’ and origami.

The secondary goal of Rhino protection week is to develop student leadership through planning of and reflection on a real event. The Eco/ Green STEM club meets for an hour after school on a weekly basis.  Their first two projects have been to introduce composting and plastic recycling at VFIS.  Rhino protection week is their third project.
As part of Rhino protection week all VFIS students have the opportunity to partake in a campaign competition.  For this competition primary students need to design a poster with a slogan; and secondary students need to write a short essay or poem.  The winners will receive a prize and their entries will be sent to the Wilderness Foundation to help with their campaign.
