An important element of the Finnish curriculum is the development of transversal competences. Through versatile learning approaches, appropriate learning methods and holistic support from the teachers, VFIS students will be encouraged to discover their strengths and a passion for learning. The seven transversal competences are part of all the subjects. They are:

• Self-care and managing everyday life
• Multiliteracy
• Information and communication technology competence
• Working life skills and entrepreneurship
• Participating, influencing and building a sustainable future
