The first school year at VFIS
On June 26, 2020, Vietnam – Finland International School held a graduation celebration for Grade 5 students. It was also the closing ceremony to mark the end of the Academic year 2019-2020, a year rich with memories.
Officially opened in August 2019, Vietnam – Finland International School currently has 206 students from Grade 1 to Grade 5 enrolled in one of two programs: The International Program where the language of instruction is English and the Bilingual Program taught in English and Vietnamese. On June 26th, the school officially completed the annual teaching and learning program that was set out according to the academic plan and a student-centered approach. The teachers have conducted lessons inspired by Finnish educational methodology, often regarded as one of the best in the world. Education at VFIS aims to cherish and support child-centered learning and to help each student find joy in their unique way of learning. The school facilities provide a peaceful and open space designed by Finnish architects. It is not just simply a variety of academic activities which are offered during each school day. VFIS students are also inspired by extra-curricular activities and field trips.
To support parents in their task of bringing up their children and to spread the outstanding values of Finnish education to the community, Vietnam – Finland International School has held 15 workshops and training sessions on a variety of useful topics. The School has also welcomed more than 50 delegations from different schools, universities and government departments. Especially during the COVID-19 outbreak, VFIS was able to demonstrate the spirit of flexibility and continue teaching through distance learning from the beginning of February. Of course, the negative impacts caused by COVID-19 have been unavoidable, but the School was able to turn the situation into a chance for new kinds of learning, improving ourselves and the quality of education and service. The most important thing was the improvement in our students in terms of knowledge and digital skills during the outbreak.
Ending the Academic year 2019 – 2020, Vietnam – Finland International School is ready to enter the new Academic year 2020 – 2021. We will be opening our secondary school and welcoming students from Grade 1 to Grade 10 in August 2020. To encourage students at the critical stage of entering Grades 9 and 10, the School will be offering as much as 8 billion VND in total value of scholarships. The application for scholarship is open from June 25 to July 15 of 2020.
VFIS believes that with the solid backing of 23 years of experience by Ton Duc Thang University, Vietnam – Finland International School will flourish as a community of pioneers, a place where members strive together to bring the best 21st century education to the students in a happy and peaceful environment.
